I’m a pretty firm believer that as a designer, you’re only going to go so far just staring at a screen. Sometimes that means getting into a sketchbook. Sometimes it means photography or making videos. Maybe woodworking or cooking? There are all sorts of ways to stretch the creative muscles that make our design work better in the long run. One of those for me is making music.
This EP was a long time in the works but finally got its proper release in Spring 2024. For whatever reason, it felt necessary to do this as much on my own as possible. The music (except the drums and some crucial production help, thanks to Lindenfield and Bly Wallentine at the Toaster Oven), a bunch of photos, some type design, some wonky lettering, a bit of motion work for the listening party, and one of the harshest clients I will ever come across: myself.
In lieu of a live release show, I did a listening party livestream on YouTube. As everyone knows you have to have something to watch on a platform like YouTube and I wanted to come up with something that would enhance the music without overpowering it. So what do flowers do? They bloom, of course, one just needs to water* them.
